Terms of service
These are the terms for using Meaningful. Plain-language, and written for where the product actually is right now — this hasn’t had a lawyer’s review yet, which matters most for the liability and governing-law sections below. Treat it as a genuine, currently in-force agreement, not a placeholder.
Who can use this
You must be 18 or older to create an account. Meaningful pairs people for live, unsupervised video conversations with strangers — that’s not something we can responsibly open to minors, and we don’t have the tools to distinguish a truthful minor from an untruthful adult beyond asking. By creating an account you’re confirming you meet this bar.
What Meaningful is
A scheduling and matching service: you book a fixed weekly window, we pair you with someone else who booked the same one, and you talk for 30 minutes over live video. We choose who you’re paired with based on shared interests and groups you’ve joined. We don’t guarantee a pairing for every window, a good conversation, or that the person on the other end is who they claim to be beyond what their account represents.
Your account
One account per person. Keep your password to yourself, and tell us if you think someone else has access to your account. You’re responsible for what happens under it. Accounts are free to use today; if that ever changes for any part of the product, we’ll say so before charging anyone.
How to behave here
You agree not to, on a call or anywhere else on Meaningful:
- Harass, threaten, or target anyone based on who they are.
- Record, screenshot, or share a call without the other person’s knowledge and agreement.
- Misrepresent who you are, or use the platform to sell, solicit, or recruit rather than have the conversation you booked.
- Attempt to access another account, disrupt the service, or circumvent any limit the platform places on you (booking limits, suspensions, and the like).
Report a problem from the call itself — there’s a report button on every session. Reports go to a moderator, not to the other person. Depending on what happened, we may warn, suspend, or permanently remove an account. We don’t owe anyone an explanation of another user’s moderation outcome.
Organisations
If you join through a university or employer, they can see your membership and attendance within their own cohort under a separate agreement with us. They can’t see your activity elsewhere on the platform, and platform staff can’t read an organisation’s aggregate data. See the privacy notice for the full detail on what’s shared with whom.
Ending your account
You can stop using Meaningful at any time. Self-service deletion isn’t built yet — email privacy@getmeaningful.io and we’ll handle it by hand. We can suspend or remove an account that breaks these terms, with or without notice depending on severity.
No warranty, limited liability
Meaningful is provided as-is. We don’t vet who you’re paired with beyond what this document describes, and we aren’t responsible for what another person says or does on a call. To the extent the law allows, our liability to you for anything arising from using the platform is limited to what, if anything, you’ve paid us in the past twelve months.
Changes
We may update these terms as the product changes. Continuing to use Meaningful after a change means you accept the new terms. Material changes will be flagged on this page.
